Smithsonian Institution Management Support Specialist in Washington, District Of Columbia
About the Agency
This position is located in the Smithsonian Office of Fellowships & Internships (OFI), an outreach arm of the Smithsonian Institution. The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Director, Administrative Officer and other staff members.
- Oversees the process for the academic appointment stipend payments.
- Verifies and processes all funds received in OFI.
- Serves as the purchase card holder for OFI and exercise uses pf purchase card authority to purchase goods and services for the office.
- Creates purchase orders in SI ERP system, including all necessary attachments, and submits to OFI Administrative Officer to be reviewed, approved and processed.
- Will be the primary unit contact in all administrative operations.

Experience:You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as creating or reviewing purchase orders for the purpose of procuring services equipment, and supplies for an organization; providing administrative duties for an office, unit or organization; and communicating and enforcing procurement and/or travel rules and regulations for an organization.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
Or Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s or equivalent degree related to this position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements.
