Society for Neuroscience Associate Web Editor in WASHINGTON, District Of Columbia

The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for an Associate Web Editor that will provide content management system (CMS) and web support for Neuronline, SfN's members-only website that provides year-round professional development and scientific training opportunities and spotlights critical conversations happening across the field. Content on the website includes first-hand perspectives of and interviews with neuroscientists, webcasts, podcasts, videos, toolkits, scientific summaries, and other content-rich resources that support neuroscientists in their day-to-day lives. The Associate Web Editor is responsible for transitioning Neuronline content from the production stage to the publishing stage by communicating closely and effectively with Neuronline and other staff, using the Neuronline editorial calendar to meet fast-paced CMS entry and publishing timelines, and publishing all content each week. The Digital Associate also helps to maintain the visual appearance of Neuronline. This role is ideal for a candidate who is interested in gaining more experience in content management, working with a website and social media, and collaborating with a wide set of stakeholders in an organization.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Handle all facets of the CMS entry process, including:Uploading all necessary parts for each article, including body text, photos, and/or videosFilling in all backend information, such as meta data and preview textTagging all content with the proper taxonomy, working closely with the Neuronline editorial calendar to ensure accuracy and consistencyHandle all facets of the publishing process, including:Publishing all articles when they are scheduled in the editorial calendarAdding URLs to the editorial calendar for reporting purposesCommunicating with Neuronline and other staff about published contentHandle ad hoc copyediting, web support, and administrative requestsDraft weekly social media posts, including selecting photos, for Neuronline articlesProvide copyediting support, such as for bios and ad hoc content requestsHelp select and edit photos used on NeuronlineServe as the go-to person for Neuronline content reporting, using Google Analytics and the Neuronline editorial calendar to pull statistics for SfN staff and volunteer committees Handle ad hoc copyediting, web support, and administrative requestsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation and Experience:Bachelor's degree in communications or other related field required.2 or more years of professional experience with a minimum of one year of experience in an area that is relevant to the role.Working knowledge of and experience with HTML.Preferred Qualifications:Good text editing skills, including an ability to master organizational style guides.A strong eye for detail to ensure that content is entered correctly to the CMS to ensure that website visitors see accurate, fresh, and visually appealing content.Strong and proactive organizational and project management skills.Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to work with SfN staff across departments and potentially external stakeholders.Knowledge of social media platforms, primarily Facebook and Twitter, and an ability to write accurate and compelling posts that drive traffic to content.Effective oral, written, and business communication skills.Familiarity with photo editing software, such as Photoshop, to edit photos.Demonstrated ability to practice sound judgment and problem solve issues when they arise.Ability and interest in working within a highly collaborative team environment while also knowing how and when to take initiative to advance individual and team projects.
