Solutions By Design II, LLC (SBD) is seeking a Technical Writer to join our team in support of our Federal customer in the DC area. The Technical Writer will support a team responsible for the maintenance and support of a mission-focused federal government web-based application. The Technical Writer will be responsible for the preparation, review and revision of technical documents for a web application. Documents developed will support web application development and enhancements activities, system operation and user documentation. The candidate should be creative, have good interpersonal skills, a background in technical writing, and experience with technical documentation and formatting. Tasks may include technical writing/editing, editorial consultation, copy design/editing, proofreading, or overall documentation review.
Requirements and Responsibilities:
Ability to work in fast paced environment and a strong desire to learn.
Ability to provide Technical Writer support to a variety of technical documents across the federal agency landscape
Responsible for writing copy editing, and formatting technical documents such as; user manuals, design documents, architectural documents, online help files, etc.
Responsible for developing graphical content and drawings in MS PowerPoint and MS Visio that accurately describe elements of the technical documents
Responsible for creating technical content and documents from drafts and updating and correcting existing documents
Able to work with SME's to ensure content is accurate and up to date
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in technical writing;
Must be proficient in the use of Word, Excel, Visio, Adobe read/write and graphical applications;
Minimum of four (4) years of communication experience facilitating meetings and presentations and writing project documentation;
Familiar with Agile principles;
Familiar with development methodologies;
Experience working with development or IT operations teams;
Proven ability to provide research, write, edit and produce technical reports;
Demonstrated editorial skills, proof-reading skills, and attention to detail;
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work with management, technical personnel, and subject matter experts to define documentation content, guidelines, specifications, and development schedules.
Prepare required documentation in the appropriate format. Analyze the data and user requirements to ensure that documentation is clear, concise, and valid. Performs substantive editing to ensure document organization and quality.
Writes, in clear and concise language, such technical documents as procedure manuals, service manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and related technical publications.
Produces written technical materials including user guides, technical manuals, implementation and test plans, and training materials to support customer project requirements.
Develop and update user documentation including quick reference guides and troubleshooting procedures.
Coordinates scheduling and production of all supporting technical material and manuals.
Writes and edits functional descriptions, system specifications, and special reports.
Writes and edits information security related documents and other customer deliverables/documents.
Develops an understanding of the requirements for the features being documented, including target audience.
Collaborates with application development and systems engineering teams to ensure accuracy of technical documentation.
Attends and participates in work sessions involving customer requirements, functional design and testing.
Creates graphics that provide additional aid in understanding documented material.
Participates in special projects as required.
US Citizenship is required, along with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, or related field is required
