Sunrise Senior Living has an immediate need for an Assistant Accouting Manager for its Property Accouting team at the corporate headquarters location in McLean, VA (Tyson Corner).
RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS
Lead and provide direction to a staff of 2 to 3 accountants in the Fixed Assets Accounting Team to include hiring, performance management and career development. Efficiently manage and prioritize tasks for staff accountants to meet monthly deadlines. Monitor and review staff accountant’s responsibilities to guarantee accounting accuracy.
Review fixed asset related activity to ensure compliance with our capitalization policy and the timely staging of fixed assets to ensure accurate depreciation. Must have the ability to manage multiple projects, problem solve and communicate with other departments efficiently.
Identify, track and timely record asset disposals.
Prepare and/or review monthly tasks such as recording design and project management revenue, transfers from various inventory accounts, creation of temporary assets and recording allocations to various general ledger accounts.
Prepare and/or review various account balance reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial statements. Reconcile sub-ledgers to the general ledger and troubleshoot any differences.
Prepare and/or review monthly fixed asset roll forwards, footnotes, cash flow statements and fluctuation analysis.
Ensure adherence to internal controls and procedures. Provide guidance to accounting staff and other departments on our asset capitalization policy.
Provide internal/external audit support. Prepare schedules, provide fixed asset support and address various inquiries.
Create positive, free-flowing communication with various departments to enhance the effectiveness and cooperation in resolving issues.
B.S. in Accounting or Finance
3-8 years of fixed asset accounting experience preferable in the real estate development or property management industry.
1-3 years of supervisory experience
Strong communication skills for interaction with various departments and auditors.
Ability to effectively work in a high volume environment.
Highly organized, detail-oriented and strong problem solving skills.
Advanced knowledge of US GAAP including asset capitalization and asset retirement obligations.
Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
PeopleSoft experience is desired but not required.
CPA or CPA candidate is preferred.
