Kaiser Permanente Healthcare Data Analyst II - Rockville, MD in Rockville, Maryland
This position provides data and analytics to Regional Executive teams and Line of Business leaders in the form of Healthplan finance analytics, reporting and tracking of initiatives, and evaluation of care delivery programs to help improve care and affordability. We are looking for an individual with programming experience (SAS or SQL preferred), healthcare analytics experience, and comfort presenting complex technical and analytic material to executive and/or clinical audiences. Experience working with internal Decision Support databases such as National Value Tracker (NVT) a plus. An effective Healthcare Data Analyst II will substantively contribute to achieving the Finance/Decision Support goals of fully realizing the analytical potential of KP data sources (Oracle & Business Objects), fostering effective cooperation and collaboration among analysts across the KP Program, and providing accurate and informative analytical results to Medical Group and Health Plan leadership in order to improve policy and decision making.This position has responsibility for executing established processes, as well as developing and applying innovative techniques for measuring, analyzing, and reporting on healthplan profitability, utilization, and costs.
Essential Responsibilities: - Given analytical project or task data requirements, works independently to access and validated needed data from KP data sources (Oracle & Business Objects) information systems. - Prepares monthly reconciliations and analyzes trends. - Determines appropriate analytical tools and applies them to implement specified analytical methods in order to achieve specified analytical project or task objectives. - Identifies potential problems with analysis assumptions and data quality and applies established quality assurance processes to resolve problems or escalate them as needed. - Prepares tabular and graphical summaries of data and analytical results based on established templates and formats.Selects the most appropriate template or format based on project or task requirements. - Working from specified requirements, authors written reports and presentation materials describing project objectives, methods, data, and results. - Identifies analyses and solves technical problems related to the collection, integration, and validation of data from KP data sources (Oracle & Business Objects). - Has considerable discretion to select and use analytical tools in order to implement specified analytical methods. - Expected to exercise judgment regarding the need to escalate issues related to data quality and possible violations of analytic assumptions.
Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Experience - Minimum three (3) years analytical experience and/or in a financial environment required. Education - Bachelor's degree. License, Certification, Registration - N/A
Additional Requirements: - Demonstrated effectiveness in written and verbal communication of technical material.
Preferred Qualifications: - Healthcare experience. - Experience with analysis of databases and a programming language (preferably SQL or SAS). - Skills in analytical methods including problem and model formulation and development of overall solution strategy. - Creativity, critical thinking, and excellent problem-solving skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication and effective interpersonal skills. - Some general knowledge or work experience in one or more of the following areas: profitability reporting, income statement reporting, case-mix or health risk adjustment methods, cost-benefit or cost-effectiveness analysis. - Experience in Accounting or understanding of Accounting/Cost Accounting basics a plus.
