Oracle s Financial Services Analytical Applications group is responsible for the development and marketing of financial industry specific marketing, profitability, risk management, fraud and regulatory compliance analytics applications. Our software is in over 70% of Global Systemically Important Financial Institutions (GSIFS). Our market leading financial crime and compliance software suite is used by over one hundred leading financial institutions globally and underpins Anti-Money Laundering, Operational Risk and Enterprise Fraud systems at some of the largest financial institutions in the world.

Our software is powered by advanced analytics (R, Apache Spark, Oracle Exadata), and our group employs data scientists, financial engineers, software developers and product managers, all of whom are focused exclusively on developing advanced analytical applications for the Financial Services Industry.

We are looking for bright, motivated data scientist interns to assist our team of data scientists as they develop cutting edge approaches to solving the most compelling problems in Financial Crime and Compliance subject area.

Brief Posting Description

The internship will be for a minimum of three months and a maximum of six months. You will have the opportunity to apply your classroom learning to real-world applications in Anti Money Laundering and Fraud. You will work with alongside one or more experienced Data Scientists in researching and developing prototype approaches and proof of concepts in the Financial Crime domain. Work location is New York City, but ability to work remotely for much of the internship period may be considered for exceptional applicants.

Job Requirements

Work alongside Oracle Data Scientists and Engineers in developing prototype and proof-of-concept statistical models and analytical dashboards for Financial Crime and Compliance domain.

Use R statistical language for data engineering using packages such as dplyr and for modeling tasks using common machine learning techniques such as Generalized Linear Models, Boosted and Bagged Trees, and Artificial Neural Networks.

Develop dashboards and graphs for visualizing analytical results in R, using R packages such as shiny and ggplot.


Current undergraduate or graduate student from leading US educational institutions with a major in Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science.

Prior hands-on experience with R or at least one college course in analytics domain using R.

Basic knowledge of using R packages for visualization, machine learning and data engineering.

Hands-on expertise with SQL databases such as Oracle RDBMS.

Excellent written and oral communication skills
