As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.

Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) is funding an ambitious initiative to acceleratecancer research. The Oracle Cancer Research Cloud (OCRC) will provide cancer researchersa private cloud and a shared data warehouse in which to conduct their research.The data warehouse will be prepopulated with large volumes of genomic data andother cancer related data. In return Oracle data scientists will curate andanonymize research data and add it to the data warehouse. This will expand theknowledge base available to other academic researchers, as well as pharmaceuticalresearchers, insurance companies and clinicians providing patient care. Ourgoal is to use our vast infrastructure to make research more efficient, butalso to provide the means for all cancer clinicians to have access to thelatest research so they can deliver the best available care to their patients.

_Department Description:_

Our datascientists use cutting edge techniques for data ingestion, curation and integrationof all data related to cancer research and treatment. Our cloud team uses agileDevOps practices to build and manage the Cancer Research Cloud on the OracleBare Metal cloud infrastructure. Our application development team creates theapplications and services that deliver the core functionality of OCRC.

_Position Overview:_

The Cloud Architecture, Development and Operations teamis looking for several experienced application development engineers withstrong backgrounds in Linux operating systems, microservices and bigdata/analytics in a public cloud setting. We will be using a mix ofvirtualization and container technologies to deliver application functionalityto our clients. Heavy lifting jobs will run on clusters ofvery large servers. Most functionality will be made available throughmicroservices. Understanding and applying security principles is a must. Abilityto diagnose problems and accurately report them is a must. Experience working withCI/CD and version control tools in an agile team is a requirement. Generalistswith depth in multiple areas are highly desired. Most new development will bein Node/Javascript and possibly GO, however there is a substantial body of Javacode so we will consider developers with core expertise in each of those.Experience with multiple open source data management technologies is desirable.Experience with core Oracle technologies is a significant plus. Experienceworking with scientists or clinicians in a medical research setting is a plus.

Team members will be responsible for building andmaintaining the OCRC applications and services. This requires the ability towork within an agile team framework and to focus on details while being awareof the bigger picture. The team may be geographically distributed, so strongteamwork is needed. The successful candidate will be expected to work alone, orwith other team members to deliver projects from our team backlog. Most of theworkday will be project work but we will be required to respond to clients orother team members on an as-needed basis.
