Job Overview:

The Central Office Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Maintaining and keeping in good condition Central Office switching equipment, power equipment, battery plants and various other control and power distribution equipment as well as working with special circuits and specialized applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have two (2) years digital central office experience, must be qualified in DMS-10s or DMS-100/200s or 5ESS.

  • Job requires specialized advanced vocational skills (generally non-theoretical) acquired on or off the job, typically gained through a combination of education and relevant experience, totaling 4 years post-high school or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated experience/knowledge in switching configurations and digital switching equipment as appropriate – Calix, Tellabs, UMC & DISCS, Adtran equipment, Alcatel, A.T.& T.,Lucent Stinger, etc.

  • Experience with performing transmission and noise measurements and making corrective adjustments to equipment

  • Demonstrated experience/knowledge in power distribution equipment

  • Demonstrated experience/knowledge in performing special circuit order work, both installation and repair Demonstrated experience/knowledge in running and analyzing T-span and HDSL span lines.

  • Demonstrated experience/knowledge in fiber optic cable

  • Must be able to successfully complete company assigned courses within the trial period

  • Must have demonstrated ability to work with internal and external customers

  • Must possess proficient computer skills

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable record.

  • Must be able to read and interpret equipment circuit schematics, service orders and circuit drawings.

  • Must physically be able to perform mechanical work (climb and work from ladders)

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 lbs

  • Work from oral or written instructions with the ability to plan work without direct supervision.

  • Must accept call-outs and overtime as a condition of employment; willing to work rotating schedules, weekends and holiday as required.

  • Willingness to promote CenturyLink and CenturyLink products

  • Must possess good attendance, work and safety records

  • Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions
