Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Specialist to join our growing team in Culpeper/Orange, Virginia. Relocation assistance is available.
In this role, you will work under minimal direction, and exercising considerable latitude in determining tehnical objectives, performs manufacturing engineering assignments requiring a wide application of standard principles, theories and concepts in the field, plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
30% - Working under minimum direction, and with minimum guidance from Design Engineering, Quality Engineering and Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) representatives, prepares detailed safe process instructions/planning by following established manufacturing and SH&E procedures. Performs technical supervision and troubleshooting of complex operations involved in the manufacture of propellants, bondliners, rocket motors, insulation components, insulated rocket motor cases, and composite rocket motor components.
25% - Reviews established solid rocket motor process instructions, monitor manufacturing activities for compliance with established safe process instructions. Originate, prepare and maintain detailed planning (Standard Operating Procedures) for the safe manufacture of propellant, bondliners, rocket motors and inert/composite components.
25% - Analyzes and develops solutions to specific manufacturing problems utilizing manufacturing engineering techniques such as specification of tooling and organization of work flow. Prepare process flow diagrams, lead Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA), process hazards analysis (PHA), job safety analysis (JSA) and use systematic approach and tools to identify root causes and problem solving. Perform mathematical calculations for geometric checks and chemical mixtures. Accurately report problems, solutions and results in concise written and oral communications.
20% - Prepares process and manufacturing reviews. Participate in preliminary and critical design reviews. Interface with internal/external customers.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in applicable major and nine (9) years of directly related experience, or a Master degree and seven (7) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and statistical process control tools a plus.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
